This sculpture, dedicated to the famous Malaga-born painter and sculptor Pablo Ruiz Picasso, was created in bronze by Francisco López Hernández. It depicts the artist seated on a marble bench, with a sketchbook and pencil. It is located in Plaza de La Merced, one of the largest and most well-known squares in Malaga, with an obelisk in homage to General Torrijos at its center.
The square itself is laid out in a grid pattern, and surrounding it are numerous cultural attractions such as the Picasso Foundation Birthplace Museum, the Cervantes Theatre, the Church of Santiago, the Roman Theatre, the Alcazaba, and more.
