The Cathedral gardens feature species such as cypress, ficus, rose, bird of paradise, bitter orange, mandarin, privet, Canary Island date palm, date palm, and Washingtonia palm, among others. The Patio de los Naranjos (Orange Tree Courtyard), with its chained entrance, is particularly beautiful.
A notable feature of the garden is a small tree with fragrant whitish flowers and black olive-like fruit, called Toxicophlea spectabilis (poisonous). This species originates from the Cape of Good Hope, and its sap was once used to poison arrows.
