Every July 6th at precisely noon, a rocket, the txupinazo, marks the start of the world’s most famous festival. The Town Hall Square erupts in a frenzy of excitement that only cava can cool. Despite the deafening noise, the rocket is heard by everyone; its sound reaches 133 decibels, just like a jet engine at takeoff. By the way, if you want to attend, you’ll have to pack in, as the square measures 2,500 square meters and is estimated to hold around 15,000 people, roughly 5 per square meter.
